Caring for Your Hair Extensions

Taking care of hair extensions can be confusing, especially if you're new to the world of extensions. Here's a few tips to help guide you through this experience. In no time you'll be an expert!

Tips for Shampooing Hair Extensions

  • For tapes, fusion, and shrinkies, do not shampoo or condition for 72 hours.

  • Gently detangle/comb out your extensions before washing.

  • Wash extensions with your head tilted back. Never shampoo with your head forward.

  • Keep your extensions clean by shampooing & conditioning weekly with products free of parabens, sulfates, and alcohol.

  • When shampooing, gently massage your scalp around the bond area. Then work the shampoo down the hair shaft gently. Do not twist, pull, or rub in circular motion.

  • Apply conditioner from mid-shaft to tips. Avoid putting conditioner on the actual bonds.

  • Rinse your extensions thoroughly with lukewarm water.  Make sure to rinse all the product out.

Care Tips

  • Allways use a heat protectant if using heated syuling tools.

  • Apply a little oil on the tips of the hair. My favorites right now are Cocnut and Aragan oil.

  • Air-drying is preferred. If blow-drying allow hair to air dry or gently towel dry about 70%, then blow dry.

  • Deep condition atleast once every 3-4 weeks.

  • When brushing or combing your extensions, start from the bottom of your extensions and work your way right below the bond. Holding a section in one hand and detangling it with the other. Use a loop brush, paddle brush, or wide tooth comb.

  • When going to sleep, put your extensions in a low ponytail, loose braid, or sleep in a satin bonnet.

  • When going swimming, wet hair first in the shower and apply conditioner. Before entering the pool/beach, put extensions in a low ponytail. Don’t not put your extensions in a braid (when swimming), you risk tangling and matting.

  • Microlink and tape should be maintained every 6-10 weeks depending on hair growth.

  • Fusion and shrinkies should be redone every 3-4 months.
